Graeme Swann Joins 100-Wicket Club In Tests

Graeme Swann became the 43rd Englishman and 141st bowler overall to take 100 or more wickets in Test cricket.

The right arm off-break bowler from Northampton achieved this feat, in his 23rd Test match, by dismissing Mohammed Yusuf in Pakistan’s first innings on the second day of the third Test match at The Kennington Oval on Thursday (August 19).

Graeme Swann took 37 wickets at 28.13 in 12 Test matches at home while he claimed 64 wickets at 28.68 in 11 Test matches outside England.

Besides 43 bowlers from England, 33 bowlers from Australia, 18 bowlers from West Indies, 16 bowlers from India, 15 bowlers from Pakistan, 11 bowlers from New Zealand, three bowlers from Sri Lanka and one bowler each from Bangladesh and Zimbabwe took 100 or more wickets in Tests.

West Indian Devon Smith has the dubious distinction of being dismissed most often by Graeme Swann, five times in five matches followed by South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher on four occasions. West Indian Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Australian Simon Katich, Marcus North, West Indian Brendan Nash and Sulieman Benn, South African Jean-Paul Duminy and Ashwell Prince, Bangladesh’s Junaid Siddique, Mushfiqur Rahim, Jahurul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan and Indian Gautam Gambhir has been dismissed by this off break bowler on three occasions each.
