India Second To Play 500 Overseas Matches

India became only the second team after Pakistan to play 500 or more overseas matches in limited overs international cricket.

The final of three-nation Micromax Cup against Sri Lanka at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Saturday (August 28) was their 500th overseas match in limited overs international cricket.

India have won 226, lost 246, tied two and abandoned 26 in 500 matches played away from home. Overall, India have won 365, lost 351, tied three and abandoned 34 in 753 one day international matches.

Pakistan have played 542 matches away from home out of 718 one day international matches. They have won 275, lost 250, tied five and abandoned 12 in 542 matches played away from home.

** Sri Lanka defeated India by 74 runs in the final to win the three-nation Micromax Cup. It was Sri Lanka’s 24th title win in limited overs international cricket and second under Kumar Sangkkara. Eleven of Sri Lanka’s 24 title wins in limited overs international cricket came at home.

** Tillakaratne Dilshan became the fourth Sri Lankan batsman to score three or more centuries against India in one day internationals after making 110 in 182 minutes off 115 balls with 12 fours and a six. It was his third century in 47 innings of 53 innings against India. Sanath Jayasuriya (seven hundreds in 89 matches), Aravinda de Silva (three hundreds in 58 matches) and Kumar Sangakkara (three hundreds in 59 matches) were the other Sri Lankan batsmen who scored three or more hundreds against India in one day internationals.

** Virender Sehwag became the sixth Indian batsman to score 1500 runs against Sri Lanka in one day internationals. He achieved this feat during his 28-run knock which was 44th innings of 47th one day international match against the Islanders. The other Indian to achieve this milestone were Sachin Tendulkar (2965 runs in 78 matches), Mohammed Azharuddin (1834 runs in 53 matches), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (1707 runs in 45 matches), Rahul Dravid (1662 runs in 46 matches) and Sourav Ganguly (1534 runs in 44 matches).

** Tillakaratne Dilshan received his 10th man of the match award in 188 one day international matches. It was his fourth such award in 53 one day international matches against India and second in the 13 finals.
