Stuart Broad and Jonathan Trott set a new record for the eight wicket position in Test cricket by adding 332 runs in England’s first innings on the third day of the fourth Test match against Pakistan at Lord’s on Saturday (August 28).

The two England batsmen erased the previous record of 313 runs between Wasim Akram and Saqlain Mushtaq for Pakistan against Zimbabwe at Sheikhupura in 1996-97.

Gubby Allen and Les Ames’ 246-run stand against New Zealand at Lord’s in 1931 was the previous best for England for this wicket in Tests while Stephen Fleming and Daniel Vettori’s 125-run partnership for New Zealand at Hamilton in 2003-04 was the previous best Eight wicket stand against Pakistan.

** Stuart Broad scored his maiden century in the 45th innings of 32nd Test match by making 169 off 297 balls with 18 fours and one six. His previous highest in Test cricket was 76 in 158 minutes off 124 balls with 10 fours against South Africa at Lord’s in 2008 while an unbeaten 91 was the previous highest in first class cricket. The left hand batsman’s 169 was the highest score by an English batsman at number 9 and second highest ever after New Zealand’s Ian Smith’s 173 against India at Auckland in 1989-90. Gubby Allen’s 122 against New Zealand at Lord’s in 1931 was the previous highest score by a number 9 batsman for England in Tests.

**Jonathan Trott became the 93rd England batsman to score over 1000 runs in Test cricket. The South African born right hand batsman achieved this feat during his 184-run knock. It was 23rd innings of his 13 Test match. After Jonathan Trott, Stuart Broad joined the club. He batted 45 innings of 32 Test matches to reach this milestone.

** Mohammed Amir recorded his best bowling performance in Test cricket by taking six for 84 off 28 overs. His previous best was five for 52 in 19 overs in the previous Test match at The Oval.
