Virender Sehwag and Praveen Kumar Claims Top Honors

India’s opening batsman Virender Sehwag scored the highest number of runs while his teammate medium fast bowler Praveen Kumar claimed the highest number of wickets in the just concluded three-nation Micromax Cup in Dambulla, Sri Lanka which Sri Lanka won by beating India in the final.

Virender Sehwag scored 268 runs at an average of 67.00 and a strike rate of 107.20 with one century and one fifty in five innings of as many matches. He hit 38 fours and three sixes in this tournament.Tillakaratne Dilshan took the second spot. The Sri Lankan opening batsman, scored 239 runs at 47.80 and a strike rate of 91.57 with one century in five innings. He hit 34 fours and smashed one six in these matches.

Praveen Kumar took the first sport among the bowlers. The Indian medium fast bowler claimed nine wickets at an average of 23.66 and a economical rate of 5.07 in five matches. India’s Ashish Nehra, New Zealand’s Kyle Mills and Sri Lankan Thisara Perera shared the second spot with eight wickets each.

Only two centuries were scored in seven matches in this tournament. Sri Lankan Tillakaeatne Dilshan scored 110 off 115 balls with 12 fours and a six in the final against India while India’s Virender Sehwag made the same number of runs off 93 balls with 16 fours and a six against New Zealand in the last league match.

Four bowlers claimed a four-wicket haul. New Zealand’s Kyle Mills and Tim Southee, India’s Ashish Nehra and Sri Lankan Thisara Perera did the same once each.
